A Glimpse of Innovation through Work Immersion

As part of the K to 12 curriculum of DepEd, we the senior high school students are required to gain relevant learning experiences through actual work exposure, also known as work immersion. Majority of us were immersed at CREOTEC Philippines Inc., a program that promotes skills-based training for students. Indeed, I was able to gain learnings that are not taught by textbooks and a four-walled classroom, I had reinforced my past knowledge, and I had enhanced skills that continually contribute towards my development. Here’s how I managed to attain such…

CREOTEC allocates training for students in fields of mechatronics, electricity and electronics, consumer electronics, software, information technology, test and measurement, automotive, communication, medical training system and green environment trainer. Our strand is assigned for the mass production department wherein we have to generate a product named as “iSense” with a designated daily target quota. All of the trainees were assigned at different stations/processes and I was assigned at Failure Analysis and Reworks. Basically, my station’s task is to troubleshoot dysfunctional iSense’s and make repairs according to a specified defect. Thus, I have developed analytical and problem-solving skills through this work since I have done a lot of trial-and-error with the numerous possible solutions for each defect of the product. Also, I have also enhanced my ability to think quickly and methodically since we all need to work at a fast pace in order to reach the target quota of each day. The job was not easy at all especially during days when defective products needed to be reworked were all piling up. This experience certainly cultivated my patience and perseverance for giving up was not an option for me no matter how complex the tasks were. Not only that, this has also made me more responsible especially in terms of keeping my station as neatly and as organized as possible no matter how hectic I get.

Although CREOTEC along with its partnering companies highlight its preparatory skills more in the engineering and technical-vocational field, it still strives for innovation for advancement in all other fields. And yes, this includes my aspired career path which is in the field of medicine where it continually develops advanced medical training systems. This is knowingly due to the fact that Science continues to flourish – providing enthusiasm to deliver breakthrough medical inventions that can eliminate the potential for errors, improve the quality of healthcare delivery, and save lives. By the time I get to be exposed to my desired profession already, I will be privileged enough to be welcomed by and to utilize new advances which could greatly benefit mankind. Therefore, this work immersion served as an eye-opener for me that there is still so much to look forward to in the future because of Science.

If it weren’t for my work immersion experience at CREOTEC, I would still be so naïve about what the actual working field is going to be like. I have to admit that prior to the immersion, I had so little expectations on the skills and learnings (applicable for my desired profession in the medical field) that I was going to acquire from CREOTEC since the company is established to set learning services that include necessary skills in the field of engineering and technical-vocational courses. However, I have come to a realization that the specifications of the tasks set at CREOTEC do not necessarily have to coincide with what my preferred profession is going to be. This is because the essentiality of completing the work immersion is to enable the students to become familiar with the workplace, experience workplace simulation, apply their competencies effectively, and inherit the significant skills and values needed for professionalism. With great confidence, I can now say that I have truly cultivated such goals through acquiring eloquent skills such as analytical and problem—solving skills, enhancing my ability to work quickly yet precisely, and develop into a more determined, patient and responsible individual. Undoubtedly, this experience is one for the books. An experience worthy to be instilled for a lifetime, and an experience I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend for aspiring students like me.
